Decoding Dyslexia North Carolina

A Step Forward for Dyslexic Students in NC

Today we had the opportunity to meet with Representatives Debra Conrad & Donny Lambeth. We shared our stories along with others in addition to information that we believe would be a benefit to all those children and adults that struggle with reading every day. The Representatives were very attentive and had many questions, one of which was if the stories we shared were the same as other families we have been in contact with. We quickly responded with as yes, and most likely as many other families in other states across the country as well. The discussion also covered what would be best for Dyslexics in the state, we paused for a moment and then shared that a few other states are either in process with legislation or have a draft in place (according to the DD network) which we would be glad to forward to the Representatives as a blueprint for what may work here in NC.

Overall it was a good meeting, the stories we shared from our own to the others we included seemed to resonate with the rep Representatives, and I believe that with the support of other parents whom have a willingness to make change, we can expect to see a change for our children in the future.
